5 Centimeters per Second

5 Centimeters per Second: A Chain of Short Stories About Their Distance. This is the best Japanese love story animation I’ve ever seen.
5 Centimeters per SecondA masterpiece from Makoto Shinkai, this movie is divided into 3 connected segments of that thing called love. It had such amazing detail from the lush and vibrant scenic backgrounds to the varying depth of fields with I did loved seeing on an animation feature. It is just visually beautiful. And the way Japan, the place itself, was not just the setting but somewhat an entity or character on the three segments was really nice.

Watching it with the original Japanese audio, you would really feel the pain, suffering, determination and hope in all of the characters. I recommend watching it with English subs and not English audio for it may ruin the experience. I’ve heard the English audio and it is not that good. Enveloped in a tear jerking score and emotion grabbing main theme, this made it to be one of the most depressing animated movies I’ve ever seen. Watch the trailer for a sneak peek of this beautiful film.

I highly recommend this especially to all anime lovers out there and lovers of love itself. (OK Onat, the review is done, snap out of it! ;) )

And lastly, it is the speed of a falling cherry blossom petal, the title, that is.
