Bits, Bytes and Pieces
Been having headaches every morning. So sometimes when I just woke up, I’d sleep it off again.
Note: Always turn off “USB Internet” function on phone when plugging it to the computer (if you have no plans on using it for the sole purpose of 3G surfing). It just connects to the net through the phone without any alert whatsoever. Or else you will end up like me, maxed out prepaid load credits. Pasaload naman dyan. Hehe:D
Movies! I was channel flipping a few days ago when I landed on Wowow. It was just the beginning of the movie so I waited what would the movie be. It had great graphics and really good a war scene. It was narrated on English, and when I heard the part where it said something about “separation”, “night watch” and “day watch”, I knew what movie it was. It was Night Watch and in English! It’s a modern vampire fantasy thriller Russian movie that was dubbed as one of the most successful Russian movie to date. I knew this because I saw a preview on the cinema of its sequel, Day Watch, way back. I was impressed with the CG and cinematography so I noted it on my phone. So now the channel was struck on Wowow. I was so excited to watch it when I heard the first conversation on the movie, it was still Russian.
Turns out only the prologue (and epilogue) were the scenes dubbed in English. I tried watching it without undestanding anything but I couldn’t. But seeing too much of a good thing and not understanding anything just frustrated me more so I stopped watching and handed them the remote. I went online to know more, and now I’m on a hunt for both of the movies. I read it was subtitled very interestingly. Though I still have doubts whether or not what Wowow showed was the first or the second movie.
Also, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer opens today (again, a few days earlier than the US release). I’ll be watching it with my sister later this afternoon. I’m really excited.
And some late internet news. The internet took another leap with Google Gears and Google Maps’ Streetview. Google Gears allows you to access online content offline. The first of their services to get this hook was Google Reader. It downloads all your subscribed feeds and saves it for offline viewing. I tried it and it did worked. Needs a little configuration but it was quite easy. Street View got mixed reviews. Some where pleased and some weren’t. I’m one of the pleased ones; I was able to walk and roam sort-of-speak around New York City (next will be San Francisco). Instant Street View celebrities popped out around the net. Also, a lot threw the privacy issues that came with it.
Yesterday was the Philippine Independence Day. Nothing happened here on my side of the country, not one.

[...] Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor). I finally got the chance to see the entire movie, it seemed not that too Americanized as what the critics said. It’s actually a pretty good Russian movie. Day Watch, the sequel, should be interesting. [...]
