Skewed and Electric-Taped Glasses
My years old, full of scratches, non-light reflecting glasses finally gave up on me. One of its “arms” broke off from the frame. The metal that allows it to bend outwards was the culprit.
I tried superglueing it but it just won’t stay straight. It kept breaking off everytime I wore it. My mom suggested that if I want a new pair by Monday that I should get my ass to my optometrist at that moment. I am blind without them on so I had to make it look like a normal pair of glasses for the mean time. I tried taping it on with those semi-transparent plastic tapes, no luck. So I went to our neighbor and asked for some electric tape. (Yep, you read that right, electric tape) I got the “electric tape on your glasses?” response and a laugh but those tapes are just so darn sticky and I knew that will do. And it did, like a chram. Immediately, I was off to the shop with my electric-taped skewed glasses.
I called in before leaving the house, and they recognized me as I entered. I was ushered to the room and after a quick session with an old friend, the Snellen Chart, (I memorized it way back then) I found out that my eyes got worse again when I asked what was my new prescription.
The frame picking. It took me some time looking through them, picking what my glasses would be in the next 3-4 years of my life (like my previous pair). Even before going to the shop, I decided I was getting the frameless ones, but my optometrist and the other lady (secretary, I think) said that those kinds are really sensitive and I better not get them. I think they saw my current broken pair, and judging from all the scratches it has, chipped finish on the sides; they thought frameless glasses are really not for me. So I went for the top-only-framed frames, or whatever they call it. Twenty frames later, I had my eyes on 3 frames, all black. It was an ordeal for me. I went back and forth on the three like a hawk. The first two were OK, with small flaws I could live with, one fits better than the other, moderately priced but not the kind (or style) I was really looking for. But the third one was the pair I really wanted; matte black finish, a bit thicker and sturdier than my old pair, looks great and they even both said that among my choices, that was the frame that best suited me. Sounds perfect but here’s the catch, the price. Let’s just say that the frame alone is worth the other two combined. And add to the price tag the new lens, I also want the same kind, with the non-light reflecting coating. They all add up quite high, but worth it, as it seemed. I had to stop and think for a while. Less than a minute in and I decided to get the 3rd one. I’ll be broke like rats but I will look good broke with my spanking new glasses. I’m sharing the cost with my mom also, almost half, but still I will be broke. LOL :))
My new pair will be ready on Monday, can’t wait to show it here.

It depends on the lens and the frame of course. Good frames could go from P1000 up. Up up up up up up. LOL :)) On lens, there are the scratch-proof coating, UV, light absorb crap etc. Mine is P1500 (lens lang), it has the coating that doesn’t reflect light.
Kung wala ka nmn astigmatism and hindi malabo mata mo, may mga lenses na para sa mga nakatutok buong araw sa computer. I saw some glasses like that before in Manila, intended for extended use in front of the computer, it has the slightest tint of green on the lens with all other coatings and such.
I tried and liked it, sobrang mahal nga lang.
