Movie Overload
I had a draft for this entry probably 3 weeks ago but somehow I forgot to publish it. I saved this on my local install of the site but lately I sort of changed my blogging routines. I used to jot a draft on my computer, then add links, check and finally go online and publish it. That way, I get a backup of all my posts but recently I’ve been blogging straight to the site, hence a forgotten entry. And I have 2 movies to blog also so I just squeezed them all here. Mixed with old and new ones; rented (the first five) and watched on a cinema and television respectively. Enjoy the show.
Domino. She is Domino Harvey and she is a damn hot bounty hunter. I love this movie not only because of the “chicks that kick ass” genre (which I really like) but also it’s packed with great action sequences (and a few steamy ones) and pretty good casting as well. Another thing that made me a fan of this movie is its overall look; that over-exposed, over saturated, shaky camera visuals. Love that stuff.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose. First, my deafening applause to Jennifer Carpenter who played as Emily, she was really good on this movie. Those twiches are hard to do. Some really scary stuff on this movie especially on the possession scene on the barn. Plot is well laid out and I’d recommend this to anyone who’s in for some courtroom drama slash flashback slash horror flick.
Dot the I. I had no idea what this movie was when I took this from the shelves. I think it was the intriguing title that made me get this. I had to stop for a while to figure it out.
Though it seemed rudimentary because of the style, the movie was quite good with a somewhat predictable twist (which I did figure out early on the movie) but it still, it crossed all the T’s after dotting all the I’s. Got it?
Pride and Prejudice. For the record, this movie is the best period drama adaptation I had ever seen. Where the hell do I begin? I know my words would not do justice but I will still try. The movie seemed impeccable in all aspects; the cast, the scenes, the locations, the direction, the lighting, the score, and could go on about this but still. I got that eerie fuzzy satisfaction after watching the last frame. I wanted to stand up and clap my hands until they went numb. Really. It is that good. I got immersed on the beauty and the elegance of it; the way they speak, the way they act and present themselves to others. Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Bennet) and Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy) were both marvelously perfect. The movie was beautifully scored. Perfect film locations and outstanding cinematography. The way the two seemed alone in the world while dancing, Elizabeth walking the long muddy path behind the perfect sun, Mr. Darcy’s confession, Elizabeth standing on the edge of a cliff contemplating as the wind blows on her, the meeting on the field early on the morning after a sleepless night; those where just a few of the scenes that brought chills down my spine. Pansy, I know, but it is just that, it is that good. I will never forget the name Joe Wright (director), and will be looking forward on his future projects. I wish I was able to watch this on the cinema, it would have been mind-blowing. Makes me want to read the novel itself. The DVD of this movie would be a perfect gift to this blogger.
Basta, sobrang ganda nito! I highly recommend this movie. Exclamation exclamation!
Oliver Twist. I couldn’t resist; it says on the cover “from the director of The Pianist (which was really good), Roman Polanski”. I’m a sucker for those taglines they put on movie covers, mostly those are my basis on choosing what movie to rent out. And I was not disappointed at all. Most mishaps do end well. Barney Clark (Oliver) was great on this movie. Another worthy film adaptation.
Silent Hill. Really good. The resemblance from the game is really evident. Surprisingly, with all the damn noise coming from those idiot kids (who probably don’t know how to spell the word “ethics”) inside the cinema, I was able to enjoy the movie. Compared to the game (I had played only the first game), this movie has only one ending, which is a really good thing.
My Date With Drew. I had heard of this documentary long ago but gave up on being able to see it because it’s “highly unlikely” to be screened here. Documentaries come here rarely. Thank goodness for Star Movies! One hairy quirky guy, eleven hundred dollars, the 6-degree of separation concept and 30 days to get a date with Miss Drew Barrymore. I just can’t stop smiling while I was watching this last night. A very nice feel-good movie.
Phew!
That was long.

i haven’t been to the theaters lately, but here are some good movies on dvd that i enjoyed and recommend… underworld/underworld evolution (kate beckinsale, action/horror, she kicks ass), saw/saw II (suspense/horror, like hostel, but better), waiting (ryan reynolds, comedy), the 40-year old virgin (comedy), mean girls (lindsay lohan, comedy), man on fire (denzel washington, drama/action), closer (natalie portman & jude law, drama/love), and crash (all-star cast, drama)

That’s a pretty good list and the only movie I haven’t watched from that is Underworld: Evolution. I’ll pick this one if I see one.
The last three were really great movies, esp Crash, we even have 2 DVDs of it.
I agree with you about Hostel. The Saw movies were better.
