Get Yahoo! Mail Beta Now and an Extra Email

[26th of April morning edit] I just saw it this morning, don’t bother with the steps below, just click the “try it now” text link below your storage usage indicator on the welcome page. I guess they opened beta testing themselves (the Yahoo folks) for everyone now that anyone can do it.

Defunct how-to starts here:
Straight from the net, turn your boring old Yahoo! Mail into the most raved Beta version in minutes! Just change your account preference to UK, Germany or (vive la) France and click the “Try Beta Now” button.

Here’s how: First, log-on to your Y! Mail account. Go to Account Information » Member Information » General Preferences » Preferred Content and change it to Yahoo! UK, like what I did. Then load Y! Mail and you should be seeing this:

Yahoo! Mail Beta option
and this if you clicked the “try” button:

Yahoo! Mail Beta logging in
and then this (the ads are blocked):

Yahoo! Mail Beta interface

Initial response: Y! Mail Beta is slower than Gmail. Though as good as it looks (like Outlook) and jampacked with features (review link), I spent literally 3 minutes on it and changed back to the old interface. I prefer my Viamatic Webmail-powered Y! Mail than the beta, and my Gmail as my primary email, I don’t need all those features for my subscription email.

And I just saw something new from Y! Mail while browsing around; you can now have an extra Y! email that you can control on your primary account.
