Lent, Fish and Riding the Smallest Sprocket

Though we are not what some can call “hardcore Catholics” that pray before meals, do Novenas and go to church every Sunday, we still observe the Lent season (Cuaresma) and we do that by fasting.

It started yesterday, Monday. Abstain oneself to simple pleasures of this world; meat. I’m not complaining, in fact I love the idea of eating fish and vegetables for a week. That is a really healthy diet. Aside from that, I added a few things to refrain from doing just for the week. I think it’s those simple things that count.

So far, this week has been on a slump, which usually is. Trying to contact few friends to meet during their breaks. Maybe go to the beach or somewhere to catch up on things. If all goes bad, I already decided to go to the beach alone. Just a 10 minute bike and I’m there.

On the bike subject, I have been “plane” mountain biking now for more than a week: my “something to do on the mornings”. Plane because I am not really conquering hills and mountains but mostly road holes, speed bumps and that short hill on the entry to our Barangay. I go around the town, to the market, on the highway and back to our house three times the least. This morning, I made sidetrips on streets that I am not familiar of, good thing there were no dead ends and irate dogs. It’s quite fun and exciting at times. I had a few close encounters with the tin-with-rubber-wheels kind, but lived to tell the tale. I even find myself singing the “Maskman” theme when riding fast downhills. ;) I’m weird, I know. The worse time was going through deep holes while riding fast, a bit hard down there if you know what I mean. I’m afraid there won’t be engineers and lawyers under my name anytime soon. LOL :D
