The Island

The IslandContinuing the previous entry, I ended up seeing neither of the TV shows but saw one of the best action-packed flick this year and watched it twice.

The Island, directed by Michael Bay (Armageddon and Pearl Harbor), a futuristic thriller is about the secret of a Utopian world and with its inhabitants knowing only one thing on their minds, to go to the “Island”. Starring Ewan McGregor (Lincoln Six Echo / Tom Lincoln) and Scarlett Johansson (Jordan Two Delta / Sarah Jordan), this movie is one hell of a ride!

The first time I saw the trailer of the movie, I thought it was going to be interesting. What made me excited to see this movie is that most of the story was in the preview, they are clones and they need to find the truth. It wasn’t like most of other movies that used that wicked-twist of story that they are not this and that all along. I was now enthusiastic about how the story will progress, what are they going to do.

The movie looked really great! The set was huge, the monitor displays were beautiful and the whole concept of it is just awesome. The best scene IMO was the truck-scene/jet bike sequence (excluding the building sign, I thought that was a little bit of a joke, but the visuals were still cool). I thought the best chase scene of all was the Matrix’s, but this one is far better. My mouth was even open the entire scene, pure astonishment! And sitting in front of the cinema, the sound was loud and I had goosebumps all over. Kudos to our cinema, with their surround sound setup, it really felt like I was in the middle of everything. And with Scarlett Johansson, it was all good. Acting and dialogue turned out to be all good also, at first I was disappointed but it was later explained on the movie why they are like that.

It’s just a shame (a little) that the movie was like an advertising commercial with all those logos flashed around. (Does that mean MSN Search will outgrow Google? Um, yeah right! LOL) Overall, it was great. I would recommend this to all those who haven’t seen it, but that is pretty much “no one” now because it showed way way way too late here and I watched it on its last two screenings. Last, period. Straight up! ;)
